The Power of Mindfulness – Day Course – 17th June 2018

As our minds get busier we are compelled to run around and keep busy. As a result it then becomes harder to sit still and be content. Happiness comes from inner peace. Only when our mind is still and content will we be truly happy and only then will we be able to sit still and enjoy ourself.

On this day course we will learn how to use meditation and mindfulness in our life in order that we are able to live a calm and peaceful life.

The teacher of this course is Gen Kelsang Chokyong – Chokyong has been the resident teacher at Odiyana Kadampa Meditation Centre for 15 years. He teaches with great humility and humour. He presents Buddha’s teachings in a practical and down to earth manner, making them accessible to everyone.
All our day courses start at 10am and run until about 5pm.

They cost £20 per person which includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

New Evening Meditation Classes

HOW TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE

Since the world evolved, human beings have spent almost all their time & energy improving external conditions in their search for happiness and solutions to their problems. What has been the result? Instead of their wishes being fulfilled, human suffering & problems have continued to increase while the experience of happiness and peace is decreasing. This clearly shows that we have not found a correct method for reducing our problems and increasing our happiness. The correct method is to change our attitude especially our uncontrolled desires.

Inner peace is the source of all our happiness. Although all living beings have the same basic wish to be happy and avoid suffering, very few people understand the real causes of happiness. We usually believe that external conditions such as money, friends and cars are the real causes of happiness but this cannot be true because many wealthy people with many cars, friends and much wealth are very unhappy. The real source of happiness is inner peace, if our mind is peaceful we will be happy regardless of our external conditions but if it is disturbed in any way we will never find happiness however good our external conditions are. External conditions can only make us happy if our mind is peaceful. We need to learn and understand this through our own experience. The way to do this is to learn to train our mind and bring it under control through meditation.

Odiyana Kadampa Meditation Centre is running a 9 week course on How to Transform your Life through the power of meditation. The course runs from Monday 15th January up to and including the week beginning 12th March.

New Years Eve Prayers for World Peace 31st December 2018

The end of the year is a time when we look back and reflect on the events of the year. The last few years have seen the world change dramatically, often for the worse. There have been many natural disasters, wars and acts of terrorism. Each year the world becomes a more frightening place to live in.

However we mustn’t forget that there is also a lot of good in the world. Everyday people show extraordinary kindness to others. Mothers putting their children’s happiness before their own, people helping their friends – worrying about them and consoling them when they are sad. If we are to have world peace we need to remember the good in the world because this is the foundation from which world peace will grow.

Odiyana Kadampa Meditation Centre is hosting an evening event – ‘Prayers for World Peace’ at Odiyana Kadampa Meditation Centre, 163 Chester Road, Northwich on New Years Eve.

The evening begins at 7.30pm with hot punch (non-alcoholic). This will be followed by a teaching and meditation on how it is possible to achieve peace throughout our world. The teaching and meditation will be given by Buddhist monk, Kelsang Chokyong. After this there will be a delicious three course Thai meal with time to chat and meet like minded people. We will see in the New Year with a candle lit vigil dedicated for world peace and happiness.

Tickets are £30 per person and need to be booked in advance with a £10 deposit. Limited places available.
